RV Christmas Decor

Dear Dr. R.V. Shrink:
It’s almost Christmas and I want a tree and lights just like the old days. I thought a wreath on the front of the motorhome would also be fun. The problem is my husband thinks it’s crazy. Just because we live in a 29 foot motorhome shouldn’t cancel Christmas. I’m not looking for the twin pine that sits at Rockefeller Plaza, I just want a little Christmas tree and a few lights. Is that asking too much?

 Dear Bah:
When I was a kid, my dad would buy those pattern kits of wooden choir boys, and nativity scene. He would spend the Fall in his wood shop, cutting and painting. In December he would stake it all out in the front yard and wire it for lights and sound. He had speakers wired directly to his Hammond Organ so he could fill his scene with his favorite Christmas music. I think this might be what you should suggest to your husband. By the time you negotiate your way back to a simple tree, he will probably be more than happy to go out and buy one himself. Today you can buy a fake tree that is already trimmed in lights. They come in all sizes and store easily. You can even find 12 Volt LED lights if you are a boondocker. There is no shortage of Christmas spirit in RV campgrounds. If you don’t want to carry a lot of seasonal decor, just park next to someone who does. Last week I saw a couple with a 5th wheel lit up like a casino. They even had a blow up Santa on the roof climbing in a chimney. Don’t forget to hang a stocking for your husband with a lump of coal in it.

My decoration-phobic husband and I full-time in a 36-foot 5th-wheel. In lieu of a Christmas tree we have more subtle holiday decorations -- a small decorated Norfolk Island pine tree and colorful poinsettia inside, patriotic red-white-blue rope lights on the patio outside (we're retired military), and perky Santa hats on the truck mirrors. That's a compromise we can both live with. Snowbird Sue

We live in a 40 footer, I have a tree on the steering wheel, stockings hung, wreath on the front of the coach, one on the door, a poinsettia near the door, and oh yes, forgot to mention.. I am Santa Claus, so I get lots of visitors to my coach.
Merry Christmas.

If your coach/RV is a small one, have an outdoor tree lit up. I'm German, and there's no way my hubby would not let me have my heritage Christmas tree. Good luck on your Mr. Scrooge.

When we had our motor home, we had a small pre-lit Christmas tree on the dash board and a pre-lit wreath that we would attach to the front grill. Now that we are in a fifth wheel, our tree sits on a table next to a window and the wreath is hung on another window with a magnetic hook.

I just got a rosemary plant in the shape of a tree at Lowes and put tiny lights and a few small ornaments on it. Finished it off with a big gold bow. Then after the season I will still have a useful plant. It sits on the dining table.

Please remember that when decorating, these decorations could be harmful to pets. For instance, Poinsettia plants are poisonous to pets.

We were on a lights tour in Rouge Park, Detroit. In front of us was a Class C with multicolor twinkle lights around all the windows. Several kids were inside looking out the windows. Loved it! I have a small Class B with a small, actually tiny, predecorated tree that I keep in the middle cupholder on my engine cover. It really does help me keep the mood.
